24-365 No Idea Was My Idea

25 01 2010

I couldn't think of an idea so that was my idea.

Agatha Ibranossian, Photo180 teacher at Orange Coast College, taught me that it’s ideas and your creativity that brings the world cutting-edge photography. Or any of the arts for that matter. All the technical stuff, fancy equipment, posing techniques, and photoshop filters are important too but only somewhat. Take Amy Spanos, for example. I began following her on Flickr only a few weeks ago. She’s doing a 365 project like me also. Her images are so inspiring because of the story she adds in the description. Sometimes her image is just pretty good but in light of what she says happened that day, it brings the photo alive. And she’s only 19.

Then there’s another of my favorite teachers. Bruce Lee. Yeah I said it. Bruce Lee. He described his martial art of Jeet Kun Do as a style with no style. He didn’t even want to give it a name because a name would create limits. He said you should be like water. Water conforms to it’s container. It can be powerful like an ocean wave or soft like a drop of rain.

Now the picture above is a result of not being able to think of what to take a picture of. I waited too long. Can’t go out because my son is now sound asleep. So that’s why I named this picture… “No Idea” was my idea.
