If there’s ever a place where artists go for inspiration, very often it’s in the wilderness. Now for a city boy like me, Crystal Cove State Park (which is along PCH), is the boonies. Only a 15 minute drive from where I live, it’s got critters, creatures and vegetation, and my favorite, hills and cliffs. It ranks in difficulty as a 4 out of 5 in Randy Vogel’s Best Easy Day Hikes Orange County.
Of course I brought along my camera. But most of these pictures were taken by my friend and photo enthusiast, Jonathan Gonzalez. I love hiking here because it’s pretty challenging. There’s trails with intimidating names such as “I Think I Can” and “Big F’ing Incline”. Then there’s the dreaded “Elevator”. A 200 billion foot drop (okay exaggerating a little) where few make it without getting their butt dirty. Check out the video. It was cool to have an my old martial arts student and now up-and-coming photographer, Danny Delaloza join us too. Thanks for the tips on HDR techniques, Danny!
Well we had a great time and I drank about a gallon of water just on the way home. My shoes in the picture above are 2 weeks old. But now they feel like my old pair!
