“The Parlor” – Old School Barber Shop in OC.

The Barbers and Beautician at The Parlor in Westminster

When I walked into this barber shop a few days before our photo shoot, I felt like I stepped into a time machine.  The first thing I noticed were all the cool pictures on the wall (I am a photographer ya know).  There were a few pics of 1920’s barbers and barber shops where the guys looked like they still may drive a horse because they couldn’t yet afford one of those fancy horseless carriages yet.  There were some pin-up style pictures too of tatooed models in 1950’s clothing.  I went up to Andy, the owner and right after shaking my hand, he offers me a beer.  I smiled but worked up the courage to resist and politely declined, for now.  After doing a little recon on the place so that I would be able to plan out my shots and the lighting setups I would need, I got back in my car and drove home excited about this shoot.

Our photo shoot was for their website which is currently under construction.  Terri, the beautician at The Parlor did hairstyling,  makeup and wardrobe for our models, Lola Dee and Julia Fang.  After speaking with her for a while, I realized she pretty much could’ve been the art director for our shoot because she’s got a grip of experience in the industry.  Oh yeah and she worked for the cable channel Showtime for a while.

The barbers that work at The Parlor cut men’s hair but they also excel at trimming and shaving facial hair.  One of the customers that was there before our shoot said Andy was like “freakin Picasso”.

We had a great time and I gotta thank everyone involved but especially my buddy, Lola Dee, for referring my photography.  Lola Dee is one of the founders of The Pinup Angels, which is a group of hotties that send care packages to our troops in Iraq.  Please visit The Parlor next time you need a haircut, style or shave.  They are located in the city of Westminster on Bolsa and Goldenwest.
